Running backs under contract

  • DJ Giddens

  • Ulysses Bentley IV

2025 season in review

It was another highly productive season for Taylor -- although the blocking around him down the stretch did fall off. Still, Taylor finished the season with 1,585 rushing yards -- the third-most in football.

Along with that, Taylor was also ninth in average yards per rush and generated the third-most carries of 10-plus yards. He also led the NFL in total touchdowns, per PFF.

As has been the case with Taylor in the backfield, he shouldered the workload at this position, with Tyler Goodson and Ameer Abdullah filling in here and there during the second half of the season.

What is the level of need at running back this offseason?

Taylor is still under contract through 2026, so the need remains relatively low. With Taylor still just 27 years old, he could be a potential contract extension candidate this offseason.

However, while the need at running back may not be high, the Colts could still make an addition here. Adding an inexpensive veteran option in free agency to bolster the depth and competition behind Taylor could be on Chris Ballard's radar.

Bentley was on the practice squad last season, and Giddens was often inactive, still needing to develop parts of his game, particularly in pass protection.
