INDIANAPOLIS — Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon decided to avoid making major changes at the top of the organization, bringing back coach Shane Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard for 2026.
That doesn’t necessarily mean there will be no significant change in Indianapolis.

Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo will interview soon with the Titans and Giants for their head coaching openings.
Anarumo, 59, has been a regular in head coaching interviews for the past couple of seasons.
“I’d be lying to you if I said that down the road that wasn’t something that would be a career goal,” Anarumo said earlier this season.
Well-regarded in New York, Anarumo interviewed for the Giants job in 2022 that ultimately went to Brian Daboll, and he was a finalist in 2023 for the Arizona job that went to another former Colts assistant, Jonathan Gannon.
Both of those jobs are open again, along with three other head coaching openings in Las Vegas, Atlanta and Cleveland, and it is unclear if Anarumo will have more interviews on his docket. Both the Titans and Giants got a head start on their coaching searches by firing their previous coaches in-season.

Anarumo’s first season in Indianapolis was a mixed bag.
The Colts finished 20th in scoring (24.2 points allowed per game), 23rd in yards (349.8) and 17th in yards per play (5.34), but the passing defense struggled down the stretch after losing defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, cornerback Charvarius Ward and deadline prize Sauce Gardner due to injuries.
Indianapolis improved in almost every number over Gus Bradley’s final season in 2024. Anarumo built a run defense that finished second in the NFL in yards per carry (3.87) and seventh overall (101.9 yards per game), and the Colts finished tied for 10th in the league with 21 takeaways.
But the Colts also gave up 247.9 yards passing per game to finish 31st in the NFL, and a pass rush that produced 26 sacks in its first eight games cratered without Buckner in the middle, recording just 13 sacks over the final nine games to slip to 15th in the NFL.
