Colston Loveland had perfect response after Bears' loss to 49ers

The saying that you can win even when you lose has felt like a great narrative to describe the 2025 Chicago Bears, as they've always spoke with optimism and positivity after a loss.

That remained the same after Sunday night's rough loss to the San Francisco 49ers, 42-38, in a thrilling back-and-forth that could be a matchup seen again in the playoffs, where Caleb Williams just came up just short on what would've been the game-winning touchdown pass.

After struggling for a good portion early in the season, the Bears offense has become a juggernaut, and in the last month, two of their top rookie weapons are coming into the spotlight, including tight end Colston Loveland. With Rome Odunze missing another game in Week 17, the opportunities were there for Loveland, as well as second-round rookie receiver Luther Burden.

Making the most of those opportunities, Loveland and Burden combined for 14 receptions, 232 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in the loss to the 49ers, showing just some of the potential that Chicago has on offense. After the game, Loveland says the Bears won't lose confidence after the loss, they just know they have to play better.

"We never lose confidence," Loveland said. "But like you said, we came here for ours to get a win and came up short. I don’t think anyone feels good right now, but like I said, props to them. The team is well coached and played well. We just have to be better."

Chicago's mindset in both wins and losses has been even-keeled, not getting too high or low on themselves, taking it one week at a time in their approach. Head coach Ben Johnson made it a point of emphasis to not let the Bears lose their focus or get down on themselves.

They'll have a chance to end their season on a high note as they look for revenge against the Detroit Lions, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, in Week 18.
