Colorado football is on a transfer portal hot streak, with seemingly a commitment coming in every hour. After landing star MAC linebacker Gideon Lampron earlier on Tuesday, the Buffs added his likely running mate at the linebacker position in New Mexico State transfer Tyler Martinez.
Martinez sat out the remainder of the 2025 season after playing four games due to a season-ending ankle injury. In 2024, however, he was a first-team All-Conference USA selection, leading the Aggies in tackles (96). He also added 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass breakup.

How Martinez recovers from his injury will be a significant storyline heading into spring ball. Still, Deion Sanders and the CU clearly believe he will be ready, especially since he only has one year of eligibility remaining. He becomes the second NMSU defender that the Buffaloes have added after safety Naeten Mitchell committed over the weekend.
According to Brian Howell of the Boulder Daily Camera, an NMSU source told him that Mitchell and Martinez were the two most vocal players and leaders on defense. Leadership is perhaps the most glaring issue with last year's team that must be addressed. The additions of the two former Aggies seem to be working toward fixing that problem.
