Colorado football adds Sacramento State wideout Ernest Campbell

4 days ago 2

There's one thing that can truly elevate Colorado's new offensive coordinator, Brennan Marion's unique "Go-Go" offense: speed.

It's one of the reasons Marion brought a track star named Ernest Campbell from Texas A&M to Sacramento State in the transfer portal last season, and it's the same reason he's getting him to Boulder. Campbell has next-level speed, which he used to torch FCS defenses throughout 2025, racking up a team-high 755 yards and eight touchdowns for Sacramento State.

The man they call "Flash" earned it during his freshman season as a track runner at Texas A&M, posting a 10.01 100-meter dash and earning All-American honors there before his time as a Hornet. Campbell was a walking highlight, seemingly making an impact anytime he touched the ball, averaging 20.4 yards per catch.

While a tad undersized at 5-foot-9 and only 145 pounds, defenses will need to catch Campbell before that matters, which very few defenses did last season. He should pair wonderfully with Joseph Williams as speed demons on the outside for the Buffaloes and potentially fill the role left by the exit of versatile freshman Kam Mikell.

Campbell's commitment adds to the trend of undersized wide receivers coming to Colorado. Earlier in the portal, the Buffs landed commitments from Miami (OH) wideout Kam Perry and San Jose State pass catcher Danny Scudero, who are both also 5-foot-9. How Marion will make it work remains to be seen, but he's certainly gathering a talented group for star quarterback Julian Lewis' sophomore campaign.
