Clemson’s defensive line turnover isn’t slowing down as another young player is preparing to move on.
Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Champ Thompson is expected to enter the transfer portal, with the news confirmed by The Clemson Insider. His departure adds to an already crowded exit list along the interior defensive front, an area that has taken multiple hits in a short span of time.

Thompson saw the field in eight games this season while working mostly in a depth role, but his snaps increased late in the year as Clemson dealt with mounting attrition. His biggest moment came in the Pinstripe Bowl against Penn State, where he picked up the first sack of his college career while logging extended playing time. Over two seasons with the Tigers, Thompson totaled six tackles, one sack, and one pass breakup.
A member of Clemson’s 2024 recruiting class, Thompson signed as a three-star prospect and was viewed as a developmental piece for the future. ESPN ranked him as the No. 19 defensive lineman in his class. His exit comes alongside Stephiylan Green’s move into the portal and with Peter Woods and DeMonte Capehart both headed to the NFL Draft, leaving Clemson facing major questions up front heading into the offseason.
