Clemson football’s new offensive coordinator is Chad Morris

Clemson has its next offensive coordinator, according to multiple reports.

Dabo Swinney is set to bring Chad Morris back to Tigertown, marking another reunion aimed at jumpstarting an offense that failed to meet expectations in 2025. The move is expected to become official following a Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Monday.

Morris returns to Clemson at a time when the Tigers are searching for answers on that side of the ball. Last season, Clemson finished seventh in the ACC in total offense, averaging just over 392 yards per game, while ranking 10th in scoring at 27.2 points per contest. The Tigers were more productive through the air than on the ground, placing sixth in passing offense but near the bottom of the league in rushing.

The decision follows Swinney’s move to part ways with Garrett Riley earlier this week, signaling a clear desire for a reset. For Morris, it represents his third stint with the program. He previously served as Clemson’s offensive coordinator from 2011 through 2014 and later returned as an offensive analyst during the 2023 season.

During his original run in Clemson, Morris oversaw one of the most productive stretches in program history. The Tigers compiled a dominant record, won an ACC championship, and set more than 120 offensive records under his direction. Clemson consistently ranked among the nation’s top scoring and passing offenses, averaging 36 points and 468 yards per game across his four seasons calling plays.

That era also laid the foundation for Clemson’s rise onto the national stage, including the recruitment and development of Deshaun Watson and multiple high-profile bowl victories. While Morris’ career since leaving Clemson has included mixed results at several stops, his familiarity with Swinney and his past success in the program appear to be central factors in the hire.

Clemson is betting that revisiting a familiar formula can help reignite an offense in need of momentum.
