The biggest pieces of the transfer portal puzzle has been put in place for the Texas Tech football team.

The Red Raiders earned a commitment from Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who joins a Texas Tech team looking to build off this year's College Football Playoff appearance and Big 12 championship. Sorby's commitment was reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel.

A 6-foot-3, 235-pound native of Denton, Sorsby joins Texas Tech with one year of eligibility left after spending the last two seasons with the Bearcats. During the 2025 season, Sorsby accounted for 2,800 yards, 27 TDs and 5 interceptions in the air while adding 580 yards and 9 TDs on the ground. He's eclipsed the 2,800 passing yard mark each of the last two seasons and had at least 500 yards and 9 TDs rushing in that span as well.

What Cincinnati transfer QB Brendan Sorsby brings to Texas Tech football

Were it not for Will Hammond's knee injury suffered in late October, the Red Raiders likely would have no had need, or want, for a quarterback in the transfer market. But Hammond's recovery timeline means the Red Raiders needed to look for a proven one-year rental to take the reins, and they found it in Sorsby.

Sorsby hasn't competed in many high-stakes games in his college career, though Texas Tech fans will welcome him with open arms after Behren Morton's rough outing in the Orange Bowl against Oregon. Off the bat, Sorbsy is a true dual threat option at quarterback, which should open up Mack Leftwich's offense more in 2026.

Sorsby will also have some familiarity in Lubbock after his girlfriend, Gretchen Sigman, signed with the Texas Tech volleyball team in December.
