The Kansas City Chiefs waived veteran quarterback Shane Buechele on January 5.
The move came after Buechele made his NFL debut during the team's Week 18 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
In limited action, Buechele managed to complete seven of his 14 pass attempts for 88 yards.

A former Southern Methodist University Mustang, Buechele began his professional career with the Chiefs in 2021 as an undrafted free agent. He was a member of Kansas City's Super Bowl LVII roster.
Buechele left the Chiefs in 2023 to sign with the Buffalo Bills. He was a member of Buffalo's practice squad this season before signing to Kansas City's active roster on December 22, 2025.
Nick Jacobs of KSHB 41 News was the first to report the Chiefs' decision to waive Buechele:
While his latest stint with the Chiefs has now come to an end, Buechele isn't likely to be out of a job for long. Now subject to waivers, Buechele could find himself claimed in the coming days as teams around the NFL prepare for the postseason.
