Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is on the mind of a legendary commentator

The Kansas City Chiefs haven't played since Week 17 on Christmas night, and Patrick Mahomes has been out since his knee injury in Week 15. The two-time league MVP was a topic of discussion during the NBC broadcast of Sunday Night Football in the matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver and NBC commentator Cris Collinsworth has consistently faced backlash on social media for his admiration for Mahomes' game. He made a unique reference to the Chiefs quarterback following a play by 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

"Brock Purdy was drafted when they (were) cleaning up the joint, but here he goes, he's cleaning up the Bears so far tonight. I mean, if this were Patrick Mahomes, we'd be screaming, 'Oh Patrick Mahomes!'" Collinsworth said, "I know I would be screaming. But that's the way it works because he has made those kinds of plays all night long and just been carrying the 49ers."

The funny comment was appreciated by broadcast partner Mike Tirico, who reminded Collinsworth of the criticism he gets online for his support of Mahomes' skills.

"I gotta say, what I love about you is you still have your speed," said Tirico. "You beat the internet to beat you up."
