Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ season ended in Week 15 after a knee injury. He continues to be involved with the team while going through rehab, and he’s already facing the consequences of losing a bet with a teammate.
Mahomes’ Texas Tech Red Raiders were shut out by rookie linebacker Jeffrey Bassa’s Oregon Ducks in their quarterfinal matchup in the College Football Playoffs. Mahomes appeared on Bassa’s Instagram story wearing an Oregon jersey, looking hilariously annoyed for losing the bet.
Bassa was selected in the fifth round with the 156th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Last season, Bassa was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference with the Ducks and played in all 14 games, starting in 12. He finished with 54 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

Mahomes has been a very active supporter of the Texas Tech athletic department since joining the Chiefs in 2017. He recently made an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay while on campus.
