Chargers begin practice week without key offensive player

With a playoff game against the Patriots looming on Sunday, the Chargers opened their practice week on Wednesday with running back Omarion Hampton sidelined due to an ankle injury.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said that Hampton is "working through it" and that he's "doing everything he can" to get the ankle better.

Hampton did not practice all last week or play in the regular-season finale against the Broncos due to the injury. It initially appeared to be just a precaution since other starters did not play, but it appears to be more serious.

This stems back to earlier in the season when Hampton suffered a fractured ankle in Week 5 against the Commanders, landing him on injured reserve for several weeks.

Hampton has been a critical piece of the offense, rushing for 545 yards and four touchdowns while adding 192 receiving yards and a score on 32 receptions.

If Hampton is unable to play this weekend, it leaves Kimani Vidal, Hassan Haskins and Jaret Patterson in the backfield.
