CBS Sports projecting AP Top 25 Poll rise for Iowa basketball

Things are all Iowa Hawkeyes right now in the men's basketball world. The early returns on the new head coach, Ben McCollum, are looking promising, and the Hawkeyes are starting to look like a team here to stay.

The Iowa Hawkeyes are sitting at 12-2 after an incredibly strong home showing at a packed Carver-Hawkeye Arena to take down the UCLA Bruins 74-61. The win gives this team confidence and is an early sign that they could be players in the Big Ten and possibly the NCAA Tournament.

With the win, the Hawkeyes should see some upward movement in the polls, and CBS Sports is on the front line as a believer in Iowa climbing in this week's AP Top 25 Poll. They believe Iowa could climb up a few spots from No. 25 to No. 23 with the UCLA win added to the resume.

23. Iowa

I'm expecting a rise in the poll this week for Iowa after a convincing 74-61 home win over UCLA this weekend. This Hawkeyes team (12-2) has won two-straight since entering the poll for the first time two weeks ago and is riding a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's road tilt vs. MinnesotaPrevious: 25 - Kyle Boone, CBS Sports

The next week for Iowa is going to be telling as they have two Big Ten showdowns in front of them. First up, the Hawkeyes take a trip north to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers (9-5, 2-1 Big Ten) on Tuesday, January 6 at 7 p.m. CT, which will air on the Big Ten Network.

After that, the Hawkeyes return home to Iowa City for a massive showdown against the Illinois Fighting Illini (11-3, 2-1 Big Ten) on Sunday, January 11 at 11 a.m. CT, which will be airing on FOX.
