Caden Sterns, Justin Simmons come to defense of ex-teammate P.J. Locke

1 week ago 2

Denver Broncos safety P.J. Locke returned to the starting lineup in Week 16 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the 'next man up' behind Brandon Jones, who was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury.

Against the Jaguars, Locke seemingly struggled, and to many, looked as if he was slowly getting acclimated to the Broncos' starting unit. On one throw in particular, the Denver Post's Luca Evans pointed out that Locke seemingly missed an assignment after a quick audible from cornerback Ja'quan McMillian. Jaguars receiver Parker Washington went for a first down on the play, and the armchair quarterbacks began pouring in their two cents.

Then, former Bronco teammates Caden Sterns and Justin Simmons came to the aid of their brother in blue. Sterns explained the concept Denver was running, and how it was actually a disguised "Cover 4" look, which was difficult to execute. Sterns and Locke go back a long way, all the way to their collegiate days at Texas.

Simmons proceeded to weigh in on Sterns' analysis.

Both Sterns and Simmons spent time under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, which helped them understand the concepts Denver is running.

The Broncos cleaned things up against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17, and they look to improve even more in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers, who just announced they would be resting their starters.

Locke is the starter for the foreseeable future, and he looks to make a tremendous impact on the backside of the Denver defense.
