Jan. 3—JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown High School boys hockey team had Williston's number on Saturday night..

The Blue Jays kicked off the 2026 portion of their season with a 7-2 victory over the Coyotes. The win pushes the Jays' record to 5-2-0. Jamestown will be back in action on Monday evening hosting Bismarck Century. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m.

It took fewer than three minutes for the Jays to get on the board on Saturday.

At the 2:24 mark, Gavin Schafer made good on a pass from Brady Nenow to give the home team a 1-0 advantage over Williston. Parker Roelfsema and Braxton Burkett also scored goals before the period was out.

Williston got moving in the second period and by the 11:56 mark, the Jays only led 3-2. In the final few minutes Bennett Goehner scored a pair of goals to put the Jays back up 5-2.

Cole Bullinger and Burkett closed out the game with scores in the final period.

As a team, the Jays put 29 shots on goal compared to 12 by the Coyotes. Williston spent a total of 22 minutes in the box compared to six served by the Jays.

Julia Skari is no longer on the Jamestown High School gymnastics team's roster but the talent is not lacking for the Blue Jays.

Sutton Van Gilder, a senior for the JHS gymnastics team, led the Blue Jays to a third-place finish at the team's Travel Meet on Saturday afternoon. Jamestown's first competition of 2026 ended with 137.150 points. Dickinson put up a meet-winning score of 146.125 while Minot took home second-place honors with a score of 141.550. In total, there were seven teams competing at the Jamestown Gymnastics Club.

Head coach Bre Carlson and her squad will be back competing on Friday at the Fargo Meet. Competition is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Van Gilder was the Jays' top finisher in the all-around with a score of 35.475 which was good enough to land her in fourth-place overall. On vault, Van Gilder earned a 9.200 while on floor, her routine scored a 9.150. The senior tied teammate Keira Anderson for the seventh-place spot on balance beam with a score of 8.650 while on bars, she ended up ninth with a 8.475.
