The San Francisco 49ers aren’t wearing black this Saturday, January 3, because the regular season is ending.
They’re wearing it because something new and something powerful is beginning.
When the 49ers take the field against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 18, they’ll debut their long-anticipated all-black “Rivalries” uniforms for the first time this season.

With the NFC West title and the conference’s No. 1 seed on the line, the timing could not be better, especially with Brock Purdy playing the best football of his career.
The look itself is bold and intentional.
The all-black design features a midnight black helmet with red striping and a gold-coated facemask, paired with striking red numbers outlined in gold.
The custom saloon-style numbering nods to the franchise’s historic wordmark, blending modern edge with classic 49ers identity. It’s a uniform meant for big moments, not mourning.
“This is all everybody has been asking about,” defensive back Deommodore Lenoir said. “I know the crowd is going to go crazy.”

The energy inside Levi’s Stadium should be electric. Fans are encouraged to wear black to match the team, and the night doubles as Fan Appreciation Night, complete with rally towels, giveaways, and discounts on everything from Zenni glasses to beer.
But the real appreciation may come from what’s at stake on the field.
San Francisco has already clinched a playoff spot, but a win over Seattle would secure the NFC West crown and the top seed in the conference.
Standing at the center of it all is Purdy, who has been nothing short of unstoppable since the Week 14 bye.
Over his last three games, Purdy has accounted for 13 total touchdowns with just two interceptions.

He exploded for five touchdown passes on Monday Night Football against the Colts, then followed it up with another five-touchdown performance against Chicago on Sunday night, three through the air and two on the ground.
Few quarterbacks in the league are hotter entering the final week.
That surge will be tested by a Seahawks defense allowing just 18.1 points per game, the second-best mark in the NFL. Only two teams have cracked 24 points against Seattle all season.
Purdy has countered formidable defenses by leaning heavily on Christian McCaffrey, who leads the team in both rushing and receiving.
The potential return of George Kittle would only add fuel, though injuries to McCaffrey, Kyle Juszczyk, and possibly Trent Williams loom as storylines.

Still, moments like this define seasons. A rivalry game. A division title is at stake. A quarterback in complete command. And a brand-new black uniform designed for the spotlight.
Saturday night isn’t just about how the 49ers look. It’s about how dangerous they’ve become and the rest of the NFC is watching.
