Bengals won’t activate promising player after all

Back on Christmas Eve, the Cincinnati Bengals announced a great roster move by designating center Matt Lee to return from injured reserve.

Fast forward to just before kickoff of the season finale against the Cleveland Browns, Lee won’t actually come off injured reserve, after all.

When the Bengals rolled out the final injury report for the game against the Browns, Lee was officially listed as out due to a knee injury. That, despite being a full participant in practice on Friday.

Meaning, despite opening Lee’s return window, he won’t actually get to suit up in the finale and get some possible developmental reps.

Those reps were a long shot, though, with Joe Burrow and the offense wanting to go full-blast in the finale and finish the season on a strong note.

This likely won’t be the end for Lee with the Bengals, of course. He’s still viewed highly around the building and he could be a long-term replacement option for Ted Karras, who will be in town on his current contract through at least next season.
