Bemidji takes 3rd, 4th in Brainerd invite

Dec. 30—BRAINERD — Tuesday was a good day for Izzy Renn and Claire Story.

The Bemidji High School girls Nordic skiers had the best Lumberjack finishes in Brainerd Tuesday. Renn finished with a 36:42.6, good for fourth place, with Story (37.00.3) coming behind in sixth

Both helped Bemidji capture third as a team with 367 points, 19 behind first place Fergus Falls. The boys, meanwhile, finished in fourth place with 327 points. Host Brainerd took first with a score of 387.

Wendy Mellema (40:47.3, 16th) and Chloe Derby (42:16.3, 20th) rounded out the individual results for the Jacks.

In relay, Anika Harmsen and Story scored fourth place with a 21:49.6. Greer Simula and Rylee Story finished right behind them in fifth place (21:53.8).

Peter Mathews and Leo McKeon came one minute and ten seconds short of winning the boys relay, finishing runner-up (18:44.0).

Jack Martin paced the boys individually in 15th place (33:16.3). Blacke DeWitt (36:57.4, 28th), Jack Galloway (37:28.1, 29th) and Solomon Benson (38:39.3, 32nd) bookended the boys day.
