Bears HC Ben Johnson applauds Caleb Williams for bounce back vs. 49ers

In the Sunday night loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams once again got off to a slow start that was covered up by the team starting with a 7-0 lead due to T.J. Edwards' pick-six.

Williams and head coach Ben Johnson have been very vocal about the team starting off better offensively, yet once again they were held back by the offense's inability to get off to a quick start against a vulnerable 49ers defense.

Despite the slow start, Williams played well, keeping the Bears in the game from start to finish and ending the night with 330 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Following the loss to the San Francisco, Johnson spoke about how his quarterback bounced back from his rough start and carried the team to give them a fighting chance in the electric shootout.

"He knew he needed to come out and make some plays for us here tonight," Johnson said. "When you’re going against a dynamic offense like that, we talked about the possibility, as an offense, of us going tit for tat with them. At times, we were able to answer that call. They just ended up making more plays than us."

Williams proved in Week 17 that he can carry the offense in any shootout against high-level teams, but there's no denying that if Chicago can get their offense clicking quicker, they could have a much better chance to be victorious.
