Barcelona’s attacking hierarchy may be evolving, but one thing is clear that Robert Lewandowski is not ready to step aside quietly.
According to an update shared by Mundo Deportivo, the veteran forward remains fully committed to fighting for a starting role, despite his age and a challenging start to the season.

At 37, Lewandowski is facing an uncertain future and has also had to manage a series of minor but persistent physical issues in the opening months of the campaign.
Yet, rather than accepting a reduced role, the Polish striker has doubled down on his ambition.
It is said that he does not see himself as a rotation option and has no intention of surrendering his place without a battle.
Still a top player
Lewandowski’s determination was on full display in the Catalan derby against Espanyol.
He was introduced in the 64th minute, replacing his competitor Ferran Torres. Rather than easing into the game, he immediately imposed himself on the match.

In the 90th minute, he sealed the victory with a composed finish. That goal took Lewandowski to nine strikes in the 2025/26 La Liga season, leaving him just two goals behind Ferran.
The numbers reinforce Lewandowski’s argument that even with reduced minutes, he remains one of the squad’s most reliable finishers.
Difficult time for Lewandowski
Recent weeks have not been easy for the superstar forward, as he has now started on the bench in four consecutive league matches and has not been named in the starting XI since Barcelona defeated Atletico Madrid 3–1.
He was left unused due to discomfort against Real Betis and Osasuna, before making substitute appearances against Villarreal and Espanyol.

His only recent start came in the Champions League against Eintracht Frankfurt on December 9.
Lewandowski had also endured a seven-game goal drought stretching back to the 4–0 win over Athletic Bilbao on November 23.
Saturday’s strike may not silence every debate, but it serves as a timely reminder that Barcelona’s most experienced striker is still very much in the fight.
