Baltimore Ravens head coaching tracker: Candidate, interview updates

5 days ago 1

For the first time in 18 years, the Baltimore Ravens are searching for a new head coach.

John Harbaugh was fired after nearly two decades, with 193 total wins, tying Chuck Knox for the 12th-most by an HC in NFL history. Harbaugh has led Baltimore to 12 playoff berths in the past 18 seasons and to six postseason appearances in the last eight years. Still, relationships sometimes get stale, and while he's a quality head coach who'll have suitors on the open market, Harbaugh's act and message have fallen on deaf ears in the Ravens locker room. The Giants or another team can now hire Harbaugh outright.

There's been no discussion about who'll lead the search, but Eric DeCosta is the Executive VP and GM, and he'll have the ear of owner Steve Bisciotti, who purchased the team in 2004 and has as much a hand as any other owner, with the acting head coach reporting directly to him. Team President Sashi Brown is entering his fifth year in the position.

With the process just beginning and no decision made yet on OC Todd Monken or DC Zach Orr, follow along here at the Ravens Wire throughout the search for updates on this "decision" that'll impact the future of the franchise and quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Ravens request to interview Dolphins' DC Anthony Weaver

Tom Pelissero reports that the Ravens requested an interview with Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver for their head coaching job. Weaver played and coached for the Ravens. The Mike McDonald loss two years ago wasn't the only significant defection in Baltimore, as Weaver took his talents to Miami for a shot at being a defensive coordinator. Weaver played seven seasons in the NFL as a defensive end for the Ravens (2002-2005) and Houston Texans (2006-2008) after being a second-round pick out of Notre Dame.

Ravens request to interview Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak

Tom Pelissero reports that the Ravens requested an interview with Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak for their head coaching job. With Kubiak running the Sam Darnold-led offense and overseeing the superstar breakout of Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Seattle is fifth in yards per play (6.0). He'd put Lamar Jackson into a position to succeed, and the principles from the West Coast offense could take Jackson to the next level as a passer. Kubiak is another coach who employs heavy doses of pre-snap motion and shift, wide-zone blocking, 12-personnel, and a mix of shotgun snaps and plays under center.
