Auburn basketball's SEC schedule, KenPom prediction

Auburn basketball escaped nonconference play with a 9-4 record, ending the slate with a 106-65 win over Queens University on Monday.

Out of Auburn's nine wins, one was deemed Quad 1 quality (an 85-74 win over St. John's on Nov. 26), and two were Quad 2 worthy (an 84-73 win over Oregon on Nov. 24, and an 83-73 win over NC State on Dec. 3). In terms of KenPom rankings, Auburn has three wins over teams ranked in the KenPom top-75, with two of those wins against top-25 squads in St. John's and NC State.

Heading into SEC play, Auburn ranks No. 34 in KenPom and has the No. 15 offense in the nation with an efficiency rating of 122.7. As expected, KenPom predicts Auburn to struggle in SEC play, more so this season than in most previous seasons under Bruce Pearl. However, there is plenty of opportunity for the Tigers to pull off several "upsets" as four of their nine projected losses are within five points of becoming a win. A few wins over teams KenPom predicts Auburn to lose to will be major in terms of NCAA Tournament seeding in March.
