Ashton Jeanty closing on key Raiders rookie record in finale vs Chiefs

1 week ago 2

Hard to believe considering the struggles of the Raiders offense this season, but Ashton Jeanty actually has a shot at a pretty big franchise rookie record this Sunday.

Jeanty is sitting on 1227 yards from scrimmage. The Raiders rookie record is held by Josh Jacobs who put up 1316 yards from scrimmage as a rookie in 2019.

That means Jeanty needs just 90 yards from scrimmage against the Chiefs on Sunday to eclipse Jacobs's rookie record and set a new one. Though it's important to note that Jacobs did it in 13 games while Jeanty will need 17 games to do it.

"At this time of year and where we're at in the season, it'd be nice to be able to see him be rewarded and have a big game for him," OC Greg Olson said of Jeanty. "So, I know that's important on the offensive line's mind, as well as everybody, really. We're all aware of that. So, we'll get him in, see how the game unfolds. Like I've said before, I think it's difficult, really, to evaluate him based on the way things went about this season and having two different systems. So, I think we're happy with him as an organization, wish that we'd given him more throughout the year, but I think he's going to be a really good player, and hopefully, again, we'll send him out on a good note and get him a chance to break Josh's [Jacobs] record."

The rookie out of Boise State is within striking distance mainly because of his 339 receiving yards. His 888 rushing yards aren't even close to Jacobs's 1150 rushing yards as a rookie. Though Jeanty is already second in franchise history in rookie rushing yards.

Jeanty's ten touchdowns is also already second in franchise history among rookies. The record belongs to Marcus Allen who had 14 total touchdowns in 1982. Josh Jacobs had seven touchdowns as a rookie.
