Black Monday has continued into the week. The Baltimore Ravens have done the unthinkable. They have fired John Harbaugh after 18 seasons.
Harbaugh was the longest-tenured coach in the NFL. He won Super Bowl XLVII and was named Coach of the Year in 2019. Harbaugh did everything he could for the Ravens, keeping them on the cutting edge for nearly two decades. He was incredibly successful with the Ravens, but not enough playoff success.

The Ravens have hit a wall with franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson. Tensions over the offense boiled over, burning Harbaugh. Dianna Russini of the Athletic reported Harbaugh’s refusal to part ways with offensive coordinator Todd Monken led to Harbaugh’s dismissal. The split was abrupt. Sashi Brown, the President of the Ravens and former General Manager of the Cleveland Browns, informed Harbaugh’s staff of his departure.
Harbaugh haunted the Browns since he started his career. Harbaugh has a 28-8 record against the Browns. The Browns amassed four of those wins in the Kevin Stefanski era. The Browns should turn all of their attention to recruiting Harbaugh. They know first-hand how elite a coach Harbaugh is. The Browns have also interviewed Monken. It’s excellent news that the Ravens fired Harbaugh. But the story would be so much better if it ended with a vengeful Harbaugh returning to the AFC North to reclaim his spot as top dog, but in the brown and orange.
If the Browns can’t close the deal, hopefully Harbaugh will find his way to the NFC. Either way, I want to thank the Ravens for this act of self-immolation.
