Arkansas basketball defeats Vols in SEC opener

No. 18 Arkansas (11-3, 1-0 SEC) defeated No. 20 Tennessee (10-4, 0-1 SEC), 86-75, Saturday in a SEC opener for both schools at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Tennessee converted 12-of-23 free throws in the contest and had its four-game winning streak end against Arkansas.

The Razorbacks led, 37-36, at halftime.

Amari Evans totaled 16 points, three rebounds, three steals for the Vols, who committed 14 turnovers in the game. He was one of three Vols to score 10-plus points in the contest. Evans converted 7-for-7 field goal attempts, 1-of-1 three-point attempts and 1-of-2 free throw attempts.

Ja'Kobi Gillespie scored 14 points, including 10 points in the second half. He also recorded four assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Nate Ament totaled 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while J.P. Estrella finished with nine points, four rebounds and one assist for Tennessee.

The Razorbacks' Dari Acuff Jr. led all scorers with 29 points. He also had four assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal.

Tennessee will next play Jan. 6 against Texas. Tipoff is slated for 9 p.m. EST at Food City Center.
