Amory's Williams, Smithville's Pierce voted Athletes of the Week

Amory’s Mylie Williams and Smithville’s Eason Pierce have been voted Daily Journal Athletes of the Week.

Williams, a member of the soccer team, scored six goals over her last two games, including five in a 7-0 win against Houston on Tuesday. She earned 61.3% of the vote in the Female Athlete of the Week Twitter poll, beating out Tupelo Christian’s Maggie Oxford and Tishomingo County’s Kazli Timbes.

Pierce, a senior on the basketball team, scored 23 points and had two blocks in a 71-67 win over West Lowndes on Tuesday. He received 37.9% of the vote in the Male Athlete of the Week poll. The other nominees were Ingomar’s Brady Hutchens and Walnut’s Logan Wilbanks.
