The Alabama Crimson Tide have now officially landed their first defensive transfer portal addition of the offseason, securing a commitment Tuesday night from talented linebacker Caleb Woodson.

Woodson transfers to Alabama after three seasons at Virginia Tech, and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

The inside linebacker has been a prominent member of the Hokies defense dating back to his true freshman season in 2023, racking up a combined 152 tackles, 11.5 TFL, two sacks, one interception, and three pass defenses. During the 2025 season, Woodson posted 58 tackles, 2.5 TFL, and one pass defense across nine games at Virginia Tech.

Woodson is the third transfer portal addition for Alabama so far this offseason, as well as the second this week. The Crimson Tide previously landed a commitment Monday night from former NC State standout Hollywood Smothers, one of the top running backs in the transfer portal.

Looking ahead, Woodson now joins an Alabama inside linebacker room that lost Deontae Lawson, Justin Jefferson, and Nikhai Hill-Green due to exhausted eligibility, and the Virginia Tech transfer should play a significant role at the position in 2026.
