As Miami football engages in a slugfest with Mississippi in the Fiesta Bowl, one of its top pass rushers may be hindered down the stretch.

Defensive lineman Akheem Mesidor stayed down after a play when the Rebels' Brycen Sanders fell on him. Mesidor was shown going into the medical tent with an elbow brace on, but returned on the next series.

Mesidor, who led the Hurricanes with 10.5 sacks this season and is the other half of Miami's feared pass-rushing duo alongside Rueben Bain Jr., suffered Sanders' full weight on his right arm. As he walked off the field, his right arm was hanging by his side.

Miami's front seven has been its calling card, and Mesidor is a key part of it. If the injury is something substantial and keeps him from 100%, it would be a huge blow for the Hurricanes' staunch defense as it looks to hold off the potent Rebels down the stretch of the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup. As it stands, however, Mesidor is trying to play through it.

Akheem Mesidor injury update

Mesidor left the field after Ole Miss' Sanders fell on his arm.

He laid on the field for several moments before leaving the field under his own power. However, he returned on the ensuing series and played through it. The extent of the injury is unknown, but for the time being it isn't prohibitive to him playing down the stretch of this game.
