5 potential 2026 free agents the Steelers must re-sign

With the 2025 season almost at its end, the Pittsburgh Steelers have plenty of offseason decisions to make — particularly which players set to hit free agency should be brought back to the Steel City.

From a lightning-fast pass catcher to a mid-season acquisition, here are five potential 2026 free agents the Steelers must re-sign.

WR Calvin Austin III

While injuries have limited his availability in his first four seasons with Pittsburgh, his game-changing speed, excellent return ability, and upside for a likely lower-end wide receiver extension give the Steelers an easy decision to make: re-sign Austin.

G Isaac Seumalo

Winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles and earning his first Pro Bowl during his three years as a Steeler, Seumalo’s a proven winner. His veteran experience among young offensive linemen is invaluable to Pittsburgh, another slam dunk call.

CB James Pierre

Working his way from undrafted free agent to depth contributor to finally a starting-caliber cornerback, Pierre proved this year that he can hang with the very best wideouts opposing teams have to offer. Pittsburgh cannot afford to let him leave via free agency.

S Kyle Dugger

Hopefully, the Steelers didn’t trade for Dugger this season with hopes that he’d only be a rental, as his addition has gone a long way for Pittsburgh’s defense, despite just a small sample size of eight games.

RB Kenneth Gainwell

A surprisingly great offseason addition, there’s an argument to be made that Gainwell deserves Steelers Team MVP recognition. Leading the offense with 65 receptions and recording the second-most yards from scrimmage with 949, Gainwell needs to be brought back in 2026.

Honorable mention: QB Aaron Rodgers

Other potential free agents were prioritized over Rodgers due to his previous claims that he’d likely retire at the end of the 2025 season. But if Rodgers did choose to play one more year, he’d definitely make this list.
