'Living in the past' or is Carrick 'the right choice'?

We asked for your views on Michael Carrick, who is likely to be appointed as Manchester United's caretaker manager over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Some of you don't want Carrick to get the role...

Reg: I think Ole is the right choice. Both candidates could do a good job but Ole is more likely to build the atmosphere in a season with just Champions League qualification as the target. He also still holds the record for away games without a loss at Man Utd. Given that we are losing and drawing games we should be winning this would be a great benefit for the rest of the season.

Simon: Once again United are living in the past instead of planning for the future! Nothing against Carrick or Solskjaer but haven't we been here before? Only one thing will change the club for the better and that is a full sale and a fresh start.

Donal: I am sad to say - I think this is the wrong decision. Carrick is a nice guy - but was not even good enough in the Championship. Under Ole we were playing good football until Ronaldo changed the dynamics. Sad to say - this looks like a boring decision to play more boring football.

But others think he's the right man for now...

Brian: Even though I'd rather not have a former player in charge, out of the ones mentioned, Carrick was the one I preferred. Carrick has managed ever since leaving United (apart from this season), whereas Ole only had the job in Turkey for eight months.

David: I think it would be a mistake to go back to Ole and Carrick has good management experience. He is the best interim candidate although not favourite to become permanent. Utd should go for proven managers with a good pedigree in the summer, like Thomas Tuchel.

Norman: I am a huge Ole fan but I have to say that Carrick is the right choice for the current situation. As a player he was so creative and gained the respect of all those around him. Currently we seem to make every thing hard work whereas the opposition get the tap ins. I think we have the players, but not the guidance.
