2 keys behind Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence's success extending plays

In addition to Trevor Lawrence's red-hot play in the passing game, he's also made a lot of plays with his legs in recent weeks for the Jacksonville Jaguars' offense.

Since Week 12, Lawrence has had at least 20 rushing yards in five of those six games. Over the last three weeks, he's scored four rushing touchdowns.

Of his 31 rushing attempts, six have gone for at least 10 yards. He's also picked up 18 first downs, helping to extend drives.

Beyond his production as a ball carrier, Lawrence's ability to evade the pass rush and extend plays outside the pocket has helped open up opportunities in the passing game.

On Wednesday, Lawrence attributed his success as a ball carrier to a few different things. One was how quickly he is getting through his progressions, which can create more running opportunities if no one is open.

Second, he mentioned the pass protection has been very good, helping to open up running lanes if the coverage is tight on the back end.

Among all quarterbacks this season, according to PFF, Lawrence ranks 10th in rushing yards and is second in rushing touchdowns.

When a defense has to be mindful of not only Lawrence's ability in the passing game but also his ability to extend plays on top of that, it can be a real stressor for opponents and create opportunities for the offense.
