12/30 Big Ten Basketball Preview: Wisconsin Hosts Milwaukee

2 hours ago 1

The season continues on Tuesday with a triple header tipping off early this evening on BTN. Let’s take a look at the upcoming action.

Howard at Northwestern Wildcats

  • Time/TV: 5:00 PM ET BTN

  • Line: Northwestern -19.5

In the first game today Northwestern will look to close out the year with a much needed win. The Wildcats are 2-4 over their past six games, most recently losing 58-61 against Butler, and lost both of their Big Ten games in December. Their opponent this evening is a Howard program ranked 268th per KenPom and entering on a five game winning streak, with four of those wins by single digits. Guard Bryce Harris has been rolling, with 19.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. If the Wildcats can slow down Harris it should be able to get past the rest of the guard heavy Bison squad. Forward Nick Martinelli is averaging 21.9 points per game on a .594/.770/.609 split and Northwestern will need him to keep up the production if they want to turn things around. At home the Wildcats should be able to end 2025 with a win.

Milwaukee at Wisconsin Badgers

  • Time/TV: 7:00 PM ET BTN

  • Line: Wisconsin -20.5

It’s been a rough month for the Badgers, with Wisconsin going 3-2 in December. The two losses included an overtime loss to Villanova and a 30 point loss at Nebraska. Things won’t get much easier in January, with two of their first three games coming against Purdue and Michigan. The Badgers will look to close out non-conference play tonight with a win against Milwaukee. The Panthers are ranked 156th per KenPom with a sub-300 defense. It’s also a busy slate for the Panthers, with three games in four days. Milwaukee has been solid offensively, but their inability to stop opponents looms large against a solid Badgers offense. With Milwaukee also playing a game Monday night they’ll be on tired legs against their in-state opponent.

Pick: Wisconsin

New Hampshire at #13 Nebraska Cornhuskers

  • Time/TV: 9:00 PM ET BTN

  • Line: Nebraska -30.5

Nebraska will look to close out non-conference play with an undefeated record and make it 13-0 if they can knock off New Hampshire later tonight. The Cornhuskers are just inside the top 25 per KenPom and while their schedule started a bit on the softer side, wins against Creighton, Wisconsin and Illinois have helped them build some momentum. The opening to conference play won’t be easy with Michigan Star followed by three of their next four games taking place on the road. Tonight’s game will be much easier, with New Hampshire having one of the worst offenses in the country and ranked 327th in the current KenPom rankings. The Wildcats are 2-6 over their past eight games and have lost by double digits in six of their eight losses. Nebraska shouldn’t face much of a challenge on their way to 13-0 tonight.

Pick: Nebraska
